Today is my 25th Birthday. What they say is definitely true, they do get slightly less exciting each year. However, it is always a great feeling waking up and having cake for breakfast!
I was awoken by a phone call where one of the key messages was ‘look on the bright side, hiring cars in Europe is now cheaper’.
Thanks.
However, one of the messages I got inside one of my cards reads ‘Live a life that is the life you want to live’. This sums up the reasons for this bike trip better than I ever could.
Today I went for a short bike ride, had lunch and cake with my grandad, sat out in the sun trying not to burn whilst reading Sapiens (yes, I know I’m late to the party on this one). A far better day than I would have had stuck in work.
I’ve picked my bike up from the bike shop after a service, new wheels and a new cassette and chain. Having been riding my fixie for most of the year, it was such a change.
My new tent arrives today which I agonisingly spent hours choosing. In the end it came down to 2 and I’m sure I’d have been more than happy with either, but the decision has been spread over several days weighing up the pros and cons of each which realistically are negligible.
I’ve got another delivery of things arriving next week but scarily, I seem to have almost everything. The more things I get for the bike ride the more I realise that it’s starting shortly.
These next few weeks will go in a blur and next thing I know I’ll be setting off…
For now, however, I’m focusing on having some cake and a relaxing day in the sun
