After some time off in Agra, I left early to catch the Taj Mahal from the other side of the river as the sun rose. Sadly the pollution was so bad that you couldn’t see the Taj at all!
The traffic getting out of Agra was much ‘better’ than Delhi although having barely left the city the road disappeared and I was left with a rocky track for a few hundred meters which then returned to tarmac again. This was a phenomenon which would become recurring throughout my journey to Nepal.

The smog lingered the entire day but the route was very flat and the tarmac (when it was there) was very good so I flew to my stop for the night in Kasganj. Below the restaurant I was having dinner in was a cafe serving traditional Indian desserts which were incredibly cheap.
After a cold shower to wake me up in the morning (not out of choice) I headed for Bareilly. Having not been on the road for half an hour I was surprised when I got pulled over by a police car. Sadly it wasn’t the fashion police (although I probably would be deserving of a visit) and they were in full gear.
Hopping off the bike and following them to a building just off the side of the road they offered me some food and tea! This certainly was a surprise and was needed as I hadn’t had breakfast at this point.

This had drawn a bit of a crowd so had to spend a bit of time dealing with the paparazzi who ensured that everyone got their photo with me.
The pollution was getting a bit better and the roads were good the rest of the day (besides one part where it turned to sand…)

The breakfast must have set me up well as I stormed through the rest of the day and made it to Bareilly in good time setting in the hotel which was down the road from a Pizza Hut. Being tired (read as lazy) this was the perfect option and filled up.
After a quick stop to pick up some passport sized photos for the Nepalese visa, I headed to the border.

It was dark as I arrived and fortunately the process wasn’t too arduous and I soon made it to the hotel.
Amazingly I was the first guest ever at this hotel for the new management so they went all out on welcoming me which of course meant, more photos.
India was great and I definitely want to go back and explore different regions in the future but I am glad to be in Nepal where things will hopefully be more relaxed.
More great stories …..the sand road was a shock ,!

That’s an excellent brush with the law…… what was the reason for being stopped? Are you sure it wasn’t meals on wheels…..
Considering what is in Nepal…. it looks so flat.
Well done
